This episode we're discussing 1945's My Name is Julia Ross, with Bessie British Brown Ale from @angryferretbrewing. What would you do if you woke up one day and everyone called you by a different name and told you you were someone else? That's what happens to Julia Ross in this twisted Gothic style drama. Strange stuff, indeed.

ShOctober comes to a creepy end this Saturday with Messiah of Evil, and Picnic Lightning Hazy IPA from @brouwerijwest. Elements of Lovecraft permeate this surreal coastal tale of a woman seeking her father, and finding one of the most unsettling beach communities ever. It's just plain weird, which is just how we like it. Join us as we wrap shOctober up in eerie style.

ShOctober barrels ahead this Saturday with 1985's Demons, and Cacao Del Diablo Imperial Mole Stout from @reunionbrewery. This Lamberto Bava/Dario Argento freak fest pairs great with a smooth, sweet stout aged on Guajillo, Ancho, Chile de Arbol, cinnamon and cacao nibs, provided by Reunion, from Coralville, IA.

ShOctober continues this Saturday, with Phantasm, and beers from @dimensionalbeer. This classic from @don_coscarelli is a favorite of ours, and introduces two of horror/scifis classic characters: The Tall Man and the Spheres! It has mutant zombie dwarves, grave robbing, a weird monster fly, Reggie the Ice Cream Man, and a whole lot more. Phantasm is a pedal to the metal interdimensional heart pounding adventure, and it called for four different beers Dimensional Brewing kindly provided.

ShOctober continues this Saturday, with Black Pit of Dr. M, or, Misterios de Ultratumba (translation: Mysteries of the Afterlife). I guess Black Pit of Dr. M sounded spookier. This Mexican horror film has the look of a classic Universal horror movie. It tells the story of the obsessive search for the secrets of the afterlife and vengeance from beyond. It also has elements of Faust and the monkey's paw. With the theme of the afterlife we chose Howl of Cerberus, from @wingwalkerbrewing, a porter infused with cacao and Hatch chilies. If you're unfamiliar with ol' Ceberus, look him up.

This Saturday shOctober returns, with new episodes every Saturday!
Kicking off the festivities is Hammer's 1972 freak out Vampire Circus. It's got a whole lot going on, including the famous Tiger Woman dance scene. We're pairing it with a flight of beers generously provided by @millstreambrewing. Great movie, great beer, the best month. Join us.

On this episode: 1968's Witchfinder General, with English Pub Ale, from @jubeck_brewing. Vincent Price is Matthew Hopkins, a fanatically righteous and sadistic witch hunter in 17th century England, terrorizing the citizenry with his singular zealotry. We paired this intense film with a delightful English style pub ale from Dubuque, Iowa. It's a perfect pairing, and we invite you to join us.

The Love Ins, with Lots O' Peach Sour Brown ale from @newglarusbrewing. Take a counter culture #60s movie loosely based on Timothy Leary and pair it up with a sour loaded with fresh peaches and you get episode 36. Tune in, turn on, and drop by.

In this episode, we discuss Vanishing Point, with All Gas, No Brakes TIPA, from @reunionbrewery and @wakebrewing. This 70s cult movie stars Barry Newman as Kowalski, a car delivery driver who leads police on a multi-state car chase in a souped up 1970 Dodge Challenger. The beer, provided by ReUnion Brewery, is a delicious, smooth triple that may be the most perfect pairing we've had to date.

It's our special episode: Slasher Films, and it's paired with Snuggy Irish Red Ale, generously provided by @textilebrews, in charming Dyersville, Iowa. Suburbs, sororities, camps, even mines, with final girls and vicious villains slashing and stabbing their way through victims, that's what it's all about. We thought a red ale was the perfect pairing with a bloody genre, and this one from the Midwest is perfect. All malty roastiness, sweet and drinkable, it's a good time. Make smart decisions, don't join your partying friends on their trip, stay home, and you still might get got.
